Privacy Policy
Last updated August 20, 2026
Calypso is a Telegram-based AI companion. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Calypso bot, the Calypso Mini App, and our website. Calypso is operated by an individual (referred to here as “the operator,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), not by Telegram. Telegram provides the platform we run on, but is not responsible for Calypso or for how we handle your data.
Who we are & what this covers
Calypso runs as a Telegram bot and Mini App. By using it you accept this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service. Because Calypso is built on Telegram, Telegram's own Privacy Policy and Mini Apps Terms also apply to your use of the Telegram platform itself. Calypso operates as a third-party service independent of Telegram.
Data we receive from Telegram
When you open Calypso or message the bot, Telegram shares parts of your Telegram account with us:
- Your public profile. Your Telegram user ID, first and last name, username, profile photo, language, and whether you have Telegram Premium.
- Your messages to Calypso. Telegram delivers anything you send to the bot or type in the Mini App to us so the companion can reply.
- Technical data. Your IP address when you open the Mini App, and launch context such as your Telegram theme colors.
- What we never receive: your phone number, your password, or your other Telegram chats.
Data we collect as you use Calypso
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- Account & session data. A session record so you stay signed in, including your IP address, browser/user-agent, and the timezone your device reports (used to schedule reminders and time-aware replies in your local time).
- Conversations & media. The messages you and your companion exchange across the Telegram chat and Mini App, including text, images you share, and images the companion generates. We keep them so the companion has context and you have a history.
- Voice notes. When you send a voice note, we transcribe it to text and keep the transcript as part of your conversation. We do not keep the audio after transcription.
- Memory. Facts your companion learns from your conversations (for example your preferences, routines, or things you ask it to remember), stored as short notes and as vector embeddings so it can recall them later. Memory is kept per companion.
- Incognito mode. Conversations in incognito mode live in a separate thread: nothing said there is added to memory and no reminders or check-ins come from it. The incognito thread itself is stored so you can return to it.
- Payments & entitlements. When you buy a subscription, top-up, gift, or item, we store the product, the Stars amount, the Telegram charge identifier, and the status, plus the plan or item you're entitled to. Telegram Stars handles payments. We never see or store your card or banking details.
- Referrals, rewards & streaks. Referral records if you invite others, plus reward, achievement, streak, and relationship-level records tied to your account.
- Operational logs. Technical audit records of model calls (token counts, cost, and which model was used) and delivery events, used for reliability, abuse prevention, and billing. These logs never store the content of your messages.
How we use your data
- Provide the core service: run conversations, generate replies, remember context, and deliver messages.
- Personalize your experience using the memory and preferences described above.
- Process payments, manage subscriptions and usage limits, and apply entitlements.
- Send reminders and proactive messages that are part of the experience.
- Keep the service secure and reliable by preventing abuse, debugging issues, and metering usage and cost.
- Comply with legal obligations where they apply.
We do not sell your data, we do not use it for third-party advertising or ad targeting, and we do not use your conversations to train AI models.
AI processing & the services we use
Calypso is an AI product, so your messages are processed by automated systems and by the service providers (subprocessors) that make it work. We share the minimum needed for each to do its job:
- Telegram: your identity, message delivery, and payments. Telegram is how you reach Calypso and how Calypso reaches you.
- OpenRouter: the AI gateway that generates your companion's replies. We send your messages, relevant conversation history, images you share, and voice-note audio (for transcription) through OpenRouter to the underlying AI model providers it routes to (currently models from Z.AI, DeepSeek, Google, Alibaba's Qwen, and OpenAI's Whisper, hosted by OpenRouter's infrastructure partners).
- Cloudflare: hosts the service (Workers), stores shared images and generated media (R2), and powers the vector search behind memory (Vectorize).
- PlanetScale: hosts the PostgreSQL database where we store your account, conversations, and records.
- Brave Search: receives the search query and fetches results when your companion looks something up on the web.
- PostHog: product analytics for the Mini App and our website. In the Mini App it receives your account id and display name, plus which screens you open, so we can see how the app is used and what's broken. We do not send it the things you tap or your conversations. On our website, where you are not signed in and stay anonymous, it also records which pages you view and which links and buttons you click.
- Sentry: error tracking for the Mini App. If something goes wrong, Sentry receives the technical details of the error (the message, where in the code it happened, your browser and app version) along with your account id and display name, so we can find and fix it. We never send your conversations to Sentry.
Each provider has its own privacy practices and uses the data only to provide its service to us. We don't authorize any of them to sell your data or to use it to train their models for unrelated purposes.
If we add further subprocessors in the future, we will list them here and update the “Last updated” date before they start processing any personal data.
Telegram Stars & payments
You make purchases with Telegram Stars, and Telegram processes them. We receive a confirmation and a charge identifier so we can grant your plan and handle support. We never receive your payment-card or bank details. Payments are also governed by Telegram's Stars terms.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal data, including your conversations, memories, and stored media, within 30 days. We retain records only where the law requires it, for example payment records for accounting, tax, or legal reasons. We keep operational logs only as long as security and billing require them.
Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or UK GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, including deleting your account and all associated data, email us at support@calypso.love from a message that identifies your Telegram @username, and we'll respond within 30 days.
- Pause without deleting: block or delete the bot's chat in Telegram at any time. Calypso stops messaging you at once.
- Keep something out of memory: use incognito mode (the /incognito command or Settings) for conversations you don't want remembered.
- Delete everything: email us and we'll erase your account, conversations, memories, embeddings, and media.
Age requirement
Calypso is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use it, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. In the EU, the UK, and Australia, Telegram itself requires users to be 18 or older. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, encrypted storage on our infrastructure providers, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your data safe and will notify you and the relevant authorities of a breach where the law requires it.
International transfers
Calypso and the services it relies on operate globally, so your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as our providers' standard contractual clauses and data-protection agreements.
Our website
Our marketing website (calypso.love) is a static site. It does not set cookies, run analytics, or track you. If that changes, we'll update this policy and ask for consent where the law requires it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Calypso evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or bot. Continuing to use Calypso after a change means you accept the updated policy.
